As a tenant, do you relate to any of these situations?
- You’d like to know the other tenants better, but you don’t know how.
- You’d like to expand your social circles beyond family, classmates, or coworkers.
- You and other tenants are reluctant to knock on a neighbour’s door to check in on them, or to ask for help.
- You wish communal spaces were used as gathering spots. Or, you don’t have a common space at all, making it hard to get to know each other.
- You like people, and don’t mind trying new things, as long as you feel safe and supported to do so.
Good news: we show tenants like you how to make this happen—independently of your landlord.
The Happy Community Project has partnered with us, the Good Neighbour Builders Society. We’re community development specialists, and your landlord has hired us to help build a stronger tenant community. That’s because connecting neighbours, even across a hallway, isn’t easy.
A thriving atmosphere in an apartment building is created by the people who live there. And that positive change starts with you and your neighbours!
We guide tenants to collaborate, find common ground, and invite others to connect. We make it normal for people to know, care for, and support each other.
We’ve done this with citizens like in the town of Windsor, Nova Scotia. And now we’d love to do it with you.
Want to know your neighbours better? Become a “Good Neighbour” and be a part of making your building a community of belonging.
“Neighbour Connectors” (tenants in your building taking our special training program) will be hard at work reaching out to you and others that live in your building.
They’ll invite you to gatherings and activities where you will have the opportunity to meet your fellow tenants in a safe and fun environment. What happens at the gatherings is up to you and your fellow tenants. For example, it could be just sharing some food, it could be a games night, or it could be a fundraising for a charity.
Between these events, you and your fellow tenants will be encouraged to arrange impromptu gatherings yourself. Simple things such as going for a walk, or dropping in for tea.
That’s it! All you have to do is take an interest in being part of the community.
